Jacqueline Schenk

(Los Angeles, California / 12 years old)

Hi, my name is Jacqueline Schenk, and I am a regional competitive figure skater, hopefully soon a sectional and national. I truly am very compassionate about the sport. It all started when I was about 3 years old… my mother brought me to an ice skating rink. It was my first time ever going on the ice! I obviously wasn’t very good, but that didn’t bring me down and I immediately fell in love with the ice!

Soon after, my mother brought me to the rink more often to take some group lessons. I got to choose whether I was going to go or not, but sometimes I just didn’t feel like going. When I got a little older, I would go to the rink 3 times a week, and I would go to skating school to learn basics. This is where it all began. I started seeing a private coach who would teach me almost everyday now 6 days every week and about 2hrs of ice time every time. I also have off ice training like ballet and pilates and more core training with a trainer and some physical therapy.

All of this training is helping me a lot. Since then, I’ve been moving up levels of competing. Now I am at a very important and high level. Skating is much more challenging than it used to be, but I work through the emotional rollercoasters. I will always remember when I used to go to skating school, and I will also always remember my old coaches. I have big dreams for my skating life, hopefully one day represent my country on an international level! I love this sport with all my heart and I hope to never give up.

Your dedication is impressive, Jacqueline! It will definitely pay off!
